New Fisker Inc brand to produce 400-mile-range electric car next year

Designer behind the original Fisker brand is starting a new namesake company and promises ‘game-changing’ battery tech

Henrik Fisker, the man behind the original Fisker brand and designer of models such as the BMW Z8 an Aston Martin DB9, will launch a new namesake company to produce a luxury electric car next year.

The car is said to be a spiritual successor to the discontinued Fisker Karma of 2012 – which itself has become the base for the new Karma Revero – and will make use of “ground-breaking battery technology”, according to Fisker.

Fisker Inc’s first car has been teased in a single design sketch posted on Twitter and showing a two-door coupé bodyshape, and reports on Bloomberg suggest it’ll have a 400-mile range.

The new model will use battery technology developed by Fisker Nanotech, Fisker Inc’s sister compnay and battery division. Fisker Nanotech’s CEO Jack Kavanaugh said to Bloomberg that he targets to move battery range and life to “unprecedented levels” using new packaging methods and lightweight materials.

Henrik Fisker added: “We have the technology that nobody else has. And there is nobody even close to what we are doing out there.”

More models are planned for the future, suggesting Fisker Inc could become a rival to the likes of Tesla and electric brands from mainstream car makers, including Mercedes’s EQ division.
